May Day Festival
This photograph taken by local photographer Herbert Wale shows the 1922 May Day parade in downtown Bremerton. The float in the foreground with the queen, her court, and maypole is followed by the “Central Trades & Labor Council”. Several businesses are visible in the background including the Palace Billiard Parlors and Restaurant, at 212 Pacific Avenue, owned by Albert J. Moran. The bottom part of the Palace’s sign (Fountain Lunch) is visible at the top of the photo. Overtime these businesses were razed to make way for new construction. Most of this block is now occupied by the J.C. Penney parking garage. The only remaining structure is just out of camera range on the right. It is the former Bremerton Trust & Savings Bank built in 1914, now home to Art Anderson Associates.
